Big and long excursion, really really long...
Wake up 5am, bus for 6 hours, arrive at Lake Salda, the Maldives beach of Turkey... picture... bath... picture...
Back in the Bus, for another 1,5h.... stop for lunch, a really nice Turkish Kebab... with repetition... highly recommendable...
And after lunch Pamukkale... big expectations, big disappointments...
This place is a deposition of calcium, and all the nice pictures are a huge number of blue pools on white rock.
The rock was there, but very low water, and only on certain places. The explanation we got is that the rock needs to dry in order to create more rock... I accept this, but they could also tell people that in this season there is not enough water for all the pools and only a few can be filled in, making it a limited show.
It is allowed to walk on some pools and to be honest, overall, it just looks like those places that show up in Expectation/Reality...
Later reading I found out that the pools were heavily damaged due to un-controlled tourism for many years in the past, and only recently since it is a UNESCO protected it is drying to be restored to the natural conditions. In fact I would prefer that everything was forbidden to step in, and we could se the amazing view that is the pools with water.
But I managed to get some nice pictures... un-edited, will “tweak” them later...
Behind this amazing spot there is an ancient Roman settlement, that has a well conserved theatret but a bit disappointing for the rest.
Final Balance 7/10.... if you go here choose mid season after some rain..
