Day 059 - Year 0 - Hello - 28.2.2019

Good Evening dear reader..

As you probably had the chance to read all over Facebook, there is a movement of very conscious people going around. So what we intend to do is very simple.

Just spend 3 day without drinking a simple drop of alcohol.

So to achieve that big thing we are all taking the following 3 days..

29th of February - This is the apple juice day
30th of February - This day we will claim as the orange juice day
31st of February - The Tutti-Frutti day, in memory of that old RTL TV show (don't remember? too young? google about it :) )

Day 058 - Year 0 - Jelgava, Again - 27.2.2019

Have you ever ear about the Paris of Latvia? That wondeful and romatic place?

It is not here.

Tough, it has a river, a tower, but no one speaking french. Well thinking a bit in Paris a lot of persons don't speak french.

Well this time there was no Smart dog... But there was Portuga red 2016. It was nice, the temperature of the wine was perfect and together with the steak.... made my day..

Now it is time to go to bed, that tomorrow the day is long...

Day 057 - Year 0 - Treasure Hunt - 26.2.2019

Day 056 - Year 0 - Visitors are Coming 25.2.2019

Winter is going and Visitors are Coming in one week.

From the far far away lands to the south, a horde of visitors is coming to the distant north.

They are used to the warm southern weather, and they will face the thin ice cracking under their feet, and cold wind entering every pore of their southern skin.

Possessed with great desire of sightseeing, they will visit the City from the North and discover the great mysteries of the Viking Lands.

They will be received with love and care at The Perry's Lodge, where Mediterranean Diet is served to all travellers (also bread and wine).

  

Day 055 - Year 0 - Cold - 24.2.2019

I am cold. Inside our house is 24 degC, and I am still cold. Not as cold as 2 hours ago, but I am still COLD....

Today, we stayed home most of the day with only 2 exception, well 3 counting with my short walk to stretch my legs.

So we had a treasure hunt in the garden.... Video later one of these days in the Bia You tube channel and for a bicycle ride, that is now proven that it was a mistake, for me off course.

It all started with: "I am bored I have nothing to do..." and the day was not that bad, so I said, lets try to go to Aker Brygge and back cycling. "yeah, lets go"..

So we went after a short briefing on how to be careful with the very small amount of ice still in the roads and sidewalks.

Little Bear go dressed as it should, snow pants and snow jacket, and I thought I was Mr. Hot, just took a thin layer of clothes... mistake... big mistake...

All was good, cold but bearable, until we entered a thick and quick moving fog "storm" that was moving south against us... it was so cold an wet that everything got we with condensation.... even my eyeballs..

But because we are very tough Portuguese we went all the way and back... (with a pit stop inside the train station for re-heating)... Hurra!!!

I am cold, still cold...

Day 054 - Year 0 - Snowboard & Ski - 23.2.2019

Today we raised our butts out of bed really really early, like 9 a.m. :).

C'mon it is early for a weekend.

So we took our best fashion snow outfits and off we went.

We climbed the mountain with great effort, using the powerful diesel engine of our super, hyper mega fast car and reached the top in a record time of 20 minutes. We found strange the lack of traffic but then we remembered that most of the crowd might be away for Winter Vacations in their Hytte (mountain cabins) or somewhere sunny.

There was a lot of fog, but while we could see the sun in the top, and every time we rode down, we got the fog.

It was a very well spent day in the snow.

Day 053 - Year 0 - Winter Vacations - 22.2.2019

The Winter Vacations 2019 are over.

While Pappa Bear has been away working in other country and also working in this one, the ladies spent the days partying and playing... Damn, I have been jealous...

I have participated in several of them after work, and today I went on a treasure hunt inside the toilet... Really... one of the papers with some hints was there.... (no shit) :)...

An during this afternoon the girls also made this treasure hunt...

Day 052 - Year 0 - Taco Thursday 21.2.2019

After 52 days they rested and created Taco Thursday...

Well we had some left overs, some taco boats, and we said, why not.

Normally Norwegians have the Taco Friday, but we like to be different and against the flow so we took it today.

So, another day, another ride in the carousel.

So today after work, I arrived home and I was forced by the ladies at home to participate in

Day 050 - Year 0 - Half a Cent - 19.2.2019

50, what a beauty..

In Portugal we have a very beautiful song called "The Tenderness of 40" that focus people just like me, born in 1978.... but be aware that all you born in 1979 will enter this year in The tenderness of the 40.

But today is the 50th post on this outstanding (not) blog.

And as I like songs I would like to bring a song with 50, but cannot remember or find anything...

Maybe 50 Cent, but because I am not neither big neither small fan, we stay with another Portuguese song, this one a remake of 50 cent....

It is called the "Matarruanos Rap"... It is about Gervásio, he is going to go get his lady.... the sheep.... It is with my sheep I want to beeeeee..... Just a bunch on nonsense... :)

Day 049 - Year 0 - Another Trip - 18.2.2019

Another trip, a known location in the Balcans.

What is happening? Nothing much, just a regular business trip.

And tomorrow what will happen? Nothing much, just another working day outside from home.

Started a new book today while on the flight, it is a really nice fictional story, so far highly recomendable.

Day 048 - Year 0 - Escape Room 17.2.2019

Today, we, The Perry's from Portugal in Oslo, received an invitation from friends to go to an escape room.

After some scepticism (from myself), we went. I have played this kind of games in the cell phone, and I confess I really like the idea of complex enigma and puzzle, but in real life, it is much more fun... wow, it was really awesome.

So this room was theme based on Harry Potter and I will not say much more not to spoil anyone that wants to go there. Basically you have to solve the enigma and the puzzle and escape the room in less than one hour. We manage in 59:58 :)... Just like McGyver...

Beatriz also participated and she has eye for it. She was the one that turned on the lights, and placed a lot of stuff in the correct spot...

Highly recommendable and to repeat. The one we went was this one..

Day 047 - Year 0 - Tiger Balm 16.2.2019

I am not getting old, I am getting crunchy.

Lately I have woke up with additional back pain, and long months after coming back from Singapore and having acquired by recommendation of a friend the apparently miraculous Balm, I final tried it.

It stinks... and it looks like your skin is burning, but after a few minutes you really feel the analgesic effect. 

But this one is not the original Tiger Balm, it is the Fei Fah Electric Medibalm, made in Singapore, and it is really really nice...

It is true that the oriental alternative medicine is famous and there are reasons for that.

On the Art Department, Beatriz is creating....

Day 046 - Year 0 - Goodbye 15.2.2019

Today we saw another great warrior of the almighty clan departure.

We fought together long battles, first against the Brazilians, the Polish, then some Norwegians and finally the Singaporeans.

You never felt in batlle and every wound just made you stronger and wiser in a expertise that was not yours.

The great army is now no longer so great.

For sure that you new Viking Army will now be much stronger, wiser and for sure will win a lot of battles.

In Valhala we will meet!

Day 045 - Year 0 - Valentine's Day 14.2.2019

Another 14th of February and love is in the air...

Today we remembered where we were 9 years ago. Somewhere in Algarve in a hotel with a discount offered by one of our friends as a present gift.

Beatriz was already in the plans and we will never know....

But today we found out the it was a passionate crime. We had 2 female fishes and one male.

And today the other female was found dead in the bottom of the ocean.

Conclusion... the dead female fish that died today was the one throwing the other fish outside of the aquearium for being jealous, and was killed today by the male fish because he found out and he really loved the other one.

What a lovely love triangle and such a nice crime scene that our aquarium is on this Valentine's Day...

So our male fish is now alone in the aquarium, after this horrendous and terrible things.

On the other hands today Baby Bear brought us home a wonderful Valentine's Day present....

Day 044 - Year 0 - Haunted House - 13.2.2019

Do you believe in ghosts? You should.

Here at our place, we started thinking that our house is haunted, why? So let's see....

Since we have our aquarium, in not much than 1 year we had:

- Mamma Bear boiled 3 fishes while cleaning the aquarium and forgetting to check the water temperature

- A fish comited fishicide jumping out of the temporary bowl (probably didn't wanted to get boiled after his family was killed, or just killed himself, for being miserable alone)

- 2 fishes were found floating and with their eyes X X

- I have forgotten and disconnected the filter during vacations, killing 5 of them

- Today when I was leaving the bedroom, there was a fish on the floor that jumped out of the aquarium, again another fishicidal..

How much a coincidence is all of this?

Our suspicious was raised, after one of our friends pointed out how much fishicides we had, and now, half a day since the last one, everything starts to add up.

After terminating this post I will get in touch with 3 distinct entities:

- NCIS LA - Naval Crime Investigative Scene

- Ghostbusters

- The Exorcist

The order will exactly be this. 

First NCIS will investigate, not CSI, because Daniela Ruah is Portuguese, 
Ghostbuster will confirm if it is a ghost or not, 

and the Exorcist, just in case it might be something else, and for us to make sure case is closed.

Dear Mr. Ghost... Now I am serious about it, and I will catch you.... Muhahahahahah

Day 043 - Year 0 - Bigger Winter days - 12.2.2019

Winter days in Norway are small, but not that small.

Today morning 8am, the sky was clean and we could see the sun :)... but not for long as the clouds soon took over the light...

To complete the perfect panorama, whit stuff started falling down the sky and it was not flour.

So now, the ice is again hiding below the snow.

But the score this year is still on my side. Only near misses.

PERRY 10 - 0 ICE

Many people ask how it is the smaller days in Norway, Oslo only!! So I will explain. In the worst case November/December days are small, it gets daylight at 9:30 and dark around 3pm. 

So very same as Portugal that you go to work and it is dark, and it is already dark when you are off-work :)... only difference is that you worked much more in Portugal.

And in the summer? In the summer if you are working is like being on vacations. You wake up at 7 and the sun is already high, and when you are off work around 4 the sun is like 12pm in Portugal, so after work you can go to the beach till 8pm. Around 11:30pm it starts to get dark.

In the summer while working looks like you are on vacation because the days are Hugeeeeeee.

But for now, the days are nice, good temperature, good for ski high in the mountain, I could only get some more sun...

Day 042 - Year 0 - Facebook Algorithm - 11.2.2019

So what is this?

Everyone has noticed that some post don't get that many likes as others, but why?

The reason is simple, since last year facebook has changed his algorithm (programming) to give points to each post, and therefore make it more visible to your friends, or less.

Can you please write this in words I can understand? Off course my dear reader, your wishes are my commands.

Facebook says a video uploaded in Facebook is better than a link to a youtube video.

Facebook says a text posted entirely in facebook is better than a link to a blog like The Perry's Diary.

A post with image has more value than a post with text.

And like this they "kill" media from outside of Facebook world.

So for this post, I will make 2 post, one with the entire text copy pasted in Facebook, and other one with just the link as I use to do.

Why am I doing this? Because I have the feeling my words are not reaching everyone and to test... Please make a like on the post we are reading this. Who will win? Facebook one, granted....

Day 041 - Year 0 - Mapling - 10.2.2019

Mapling, what is mapling?

It has nothing to do with the tree, in Portuguese one of the words for sofa is "Maple", so Mapling is in Perryese the ancient art of rolling from left to right side of the maple (sofa) for long hours, normally on a lazy Sunday.

Yes, that was basically what I did the entire day, and including drooling , snoring and stretching.

After this exhausting session that took a lot of my extenuating non-labouring day, we had the popcorn in the microwave oven, and we watched Small Foot. Very nice and recommendable, a great dose of LOL..

PS: If someone forgot, tomorrow is monday again...

Day 040 - Year 0 - Alibaba and the Forty Thieves - 9.2.2019

Once upon a time.... 

There was a guy, and that guy was not a thief.

This guy here was living in Oslo and was trapped inside is home. He had ordered a boat online, so that he could exit his cave, but he was still waiting... That mystic  and mysterious place. He ordered in Alibaba.com.

(drum rolls, and suspense)

In fact there was no cave, but a house and a lot of melted snow... and our condominium, has forgotten to fix the pavement, so swimming pool.

I had to dig thru 300 m of snow and over the mountain so that I would not have to cross the ocean.

The forty thieves arrived later and knocked on the door and the door replied.. "Who comes there?"

And the thieves just replied " Open Perry's door ".

And magically the door opened...

Day 039 - Year 0 - A Book and a Glass of Wine 8.2.2019

Finally Friday.. FF..

And the quietness and a moment for yourself. B in bed, E watching a pink tv series.

And yourself relaxing with the continuation of a book on chapter 67 on page 607... almost finished with this american supremacy military story. Jack Ryan, you are much more cooler than Donald Trump...

And today we have rain, which is always very nice after having 20cm of snow... it means that tomorrow we will have massive ice slabs all over.

Damn you Saint Peter.

Good news, it is very good weather to stay home and knitting wool socks, my new hobby (not).

Probably I will not manage to finish the book but I am already thinking what to read next, and there is so much option already in my kindle and on the shelf.

As a colleague of mine says, "Decision Decisions, Decisions...".. normally he says something more, but it might be offensive for the readers from Ecuador.

Well, that's it for today, back to consuming, instead of delivering beautiful, profound and not meaningful words to you on that side of screen.

Day 038 - Year 0 - Star Wars - 7.2.2019

" - Pappa, lets see Star Wars" 

And we did start Star Wars Episode VIII The Last Jedi. Because last time it was VII.

"- Pappa Lego Star Wars is less freighting than the movie."

And she know who is who, fathers, sons, grandsons, brothers, sisters, good and bad guys. I am so proud :)....

The temperature this morning was increasing and today we got some ice stalactites, so breakfast was Ice Stalactite with Snow Topping.

The week is finally ending and tomorrow is friday!! Hooray!

Day 037 - Year 0 - Dog Days Reset - 6.2.2019

So today we started the counting again as Beatriz room was a mess.

So back to day one again... It lasted 12 days.. Our devils are jumping of joy...

Next time it will last 10 days, the next 8, until the idea will finally fade out, (devil...)

Did I mentioned that it is still snowing??

My desk is close to the window so I have a privileged view the entire day to the snow, after all this years it is still mesmerising.

Day 036 - Year 0 - A Letter to You - 5.2.2019

Oslo, 5.2.2019

Dear Reader,

Today we celebrate the 5th day of February of the 2019th year of the Gregorian calendar.

In this Month we will have only 28 days, and we already are in the 5th, so 23 missing. (I have always been good in math).

Also today, the Chinese New Year already happened many hours ago, and the year of the Pig has started. I knew it was sometime around this week, as a lot of my client's are Chinese and they are away, but only came to my attention few minutes ago, while thumb-rubbing my phone on Facebook.

I would like to ask, you, yes you, the Reader... to pray to Mr. Saint Peter, the holly master of the weather, open and closing heaven (sky) to stop the snow for one or 2 days around here.... it would be nice to see the sun for a while. The cold can stay, I am a fair guy, but we would appreciate some help to sintetize our Vitamin D, OK??? thank you...

In case you are not Roman Catholic, you can pray to your god, now worries, I am not taking side with any team, as long as the snow stops...

(please don't take this too serious... I am agnostic)

Today after supporting my daughter in her bedroom with homework on the computer, when she finished she just opened youtube, and I was checking my email and just stayed sitting there for a few minutes...

After a while, the little prick... (YES... only a few years ago she was wearing diapers, and I changed a lot of those smelly bombs, so I am entitled to say this...) ... she turns on to me and just say...

- " What are you doing here? "

Day 035 - Year 0 - Gardfield - 4.2.2019

Today I feel like I am Gardfield, that fat, orange and lazy cat.

Wel not for feeling adjectivated by any of those (maybe a bit fat), but for the fact that just like Gardfield, I hate Mondays.

There are only 2 types of good monday, Holliday Monday's and Vacation Mondays. All the others, and each years has 52 of them, simply .... ....

Slow start, not much will, but as the client on the other side of the world, 8 hour ahead decided to book a meeting at 2am for 8am, there was no time to think, and when I was still thinking that I needed to start working, I was already into it full speed ahead.

Only good thing now is that there is only 4 days missing till friday...

I hate mondays....

Day 034 - Year 0 - Cycling in the Snow - 3.2.2019

Even after a certain age you can get impressed and mesmerized with stuff that happens to you.

Today it was cycling in the snow. Simply wow...

It is impressive how something can be so pleasant. The tracks I used are the ones I use in the summer but in the winter they have a nice and compact snow.

The temperature was close to -3degC and it is the minimum temperature I went cycling... (not counting with that one time with -5degC that I only cycled for 500m)

I used simple mountain bike tires, and it was good enough. Just faced 2 difficulties with ice, but that was on tarmac road. The rest all the walking paths were simply perfect.

In conclusion something to repeat, now that I know how it is.

and to conclude the video...WOW, I was re-born today...

Day 033 - Year 0 - Snow, Snow and Snow - 2.1.2019

I think was was the longest run of snowfall I remember in these 5 years in Norway. Almost 48 hours..

Right now kinda stopped, but slowly falling down still.

We spent most of our day indoors, and we today was lego playtime...

Pappa Bear, managed to create the next big lego top sales hit, a wonderful and super duper hiper fast, Zero-Wing, because it is going nowhere beside the top shelf where all my legos are :)..

This amazing construction was built with legos bought in a school flea market, a plastic bag full of assorted lego's and minifigures.

How nice it is? Wanna buy?

A big chunk of the rest of the day was filled in exploring the wonders of open source, and creating a home cloud with open source software, that is also free...

Tested at home, and installed at a friend's computer / cell phone / computer. Works like a charm, have similar dropbox functionalities, but in your own server with full control of the safety of your files.

My configuration at home is Nextcloud running in a raspberry pi plus a USB external hard drive .... more on this in Linuxmadeasy.blogspot.com one of this days.

Tomorrow, we will visit the Moon in the morning and Mars in the afternoon, if you wanna come, be aware that the Reveille is at 0700 (O seven hundred).

Day 032 - Year 0 - Goose Tears and .... - 1.2.2019

1/12th of the year is gone. We have now entered February. And with this, I have written non stop everyday for 33 days. What an achievement.

So today it was cinema time. Grab the blanket, all those bad things to eat and watch a movie. This was our selection from Netflix for the evening.

Duck Duck Goose, which is the tale of a very immature and sloppy goose.

I don't want to spoil the movie to you, but this is a children movie, and it would not really matter, as this kinds of movies always end up well.

Regardless of you already knowing that all will end up well.... I will try to show it is the plot of the movie, but with a twist.....
